“It would be risky to claim that the preservation of Yoruba oral tradition entirely depends on our publications; however, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the technologisation and coexistence of our loyal-to-source language varieties form an invaluable register of this millennial wisdom and knowledge.”
Maja Mesesnel, editor-in-chief
At Oduduwa Europe, we are delighted to reveal a first look at the cover of our forthcoming publication by Adéṣínà Síkírù Sàlámì – Bàbá King “Notes on Yoruba Culture, Theology, Rituals and Symbolism”, which is set to be published in a few years, followed by other language versions.
The cover features a gorgeous portrait of the priestess of Òrìṣà Ṣaṣara, taken at the Oduduwa Temple in Abéòkúta, Nigeria, in 2017, by the excellent photographer Tina Ramujkić.
Invocation for the òrìṣà Ṣaṣara
Ṣaṣara o!
Ẹwi fun alejo ko de o
Ṣaṣara, tell to guests, to strangers and to those who need any kind of healing also, to come and join us,
Ẹ ti Ṣaṣara bọ agbo
because it seems as if Ṣaṣara is bathing in àgbo.
Hee Hee Hee
Yes, it is precisely like this.
Ẹ ti Ṣaṣara bọ àgbo
It seems as if Ṣaṣara is bathing in àgbo.
Observation: The invocation of the goddess of àgbo is addressing people to put all their difficulties and challenges into àgbo. The àgbo possesses a healing power and the òrìṣà Ṣaṣara is the act of healing, she is in the healing act of àgbo.
